Lived in Umea, Sweden
During my student's days, I lived and studied for 4 months in Umea, all up north in Sweden, close to the polar circle. I had a brilliant time there, talking Swedish, drinking 'glögg' and eating 'peppar kakor', celebrating Santa Lucia, watching the Northern Lights, visiting Stockholm, Göteborg, Oslo, Bergen, Vasa, Helsinki and St. Petersburg.
Ask me about the Swedish way of life, the extensive nature, the darkness ...
Lived in Kibbutz Yiron, Israel
When I was 20, I worked and lived two months as a volunteer in Kibbutz Yiron, in the north of Israel, close to the Libanon border. I worked in the nursery (of trees, not of kids!) and in the avocado-yard. Every sabbath the volunteer leader Shamaria took me and all the otheer volunteers on trips through the north of Israel: Akko, Golan Heights, Lake Kinneret ...
Ask me about the north and the rest of Israel (Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Massada, Dead Sea), Jordan (Petra) and Egypt (Dahab and Caïro), where I travelled around after my Kibbutz-experience.
Lived in Nijmegen, Netherlands
From my 18th, I studied Human Geography in Nijmegen. The first two years I lived far out of town in a studentflat called 'Vossenveld', but then I moved to a room in a (formerly)majestic house on 'Groesbeekseweg'. I had a splendid student period there!
Ask me anything about this city, pubs, dancing places, restaurants, skating in Ooypolder and stopping at Oortjeshekken, walking in the woods and eating pancakes in Duivelsberg-restaurant, the Four Days Marches, Lux (one of the best filmhouses in Holland), et cetera ...
Lived in Rivesaltes (Perpignan), France
When I was 19, I worked for two months as a receptionist in Tropic Hotel in Rivesaltes, close to Perpignan, in the south of France on the 'Route du Soleil'.
Aks me everything about nice beaches and places to dance till you drop or till the early morning
Lived in Middelburg (and around), Netherlands
I was born in Westkapelle, a small village of about 2500 people on the peninsula Walcheren in Zeeland. I've lived there till my eighteenth, so I know the area around Middelburg quite well.
Ask me tips for a weekend trip, nice walks or skating and cycling tours, cosy pubs and restaurants and local museums.
